Ata Kandó became well known very late in life when she finally returned to Holland from her world travels aged almost 90. She got many of her books published or re-published during the last ten years of her long life. Being involved in overseeing the publications right to the very end is probably what kept her alive to the ripe old age of 103, actually 2 days before her 104th birthday. The family collection contains signed books not only by Ata Kandó but also by her second husband Ed van der Elsken.
